Nigeria’s United Bank for Africa (UBA), Friday lifts the earlier restriction on its cards usage for transactions with online jewellery merchants, gambling or access any pornography sites.

Contrary to the circular sent to customers through E-mail Thursday, the pan-African financial institution today released another circular signed by Chukwuma Nweke, its Executive Director/Group COO, stating the reversal of the earlier decision.

In the newsletter titled: “your UBA cards can be used on any site, anywhere”, Nweke states that “in our relentless bid to continuously provide excellent services to our customers, we work hard to protect your transactions and Identity.

“We recently sent you correspondence indicating that your cards would be protected from certain risky sites.

“We have listened to you and have heard that this is not in line with your expectations. We have immediately made adjustments accordingly.”

In addition, the bank’s executive director apologised to customers affected and stated that “all sites have been unblocked and you can now transact on any platform globally that you would like to whilst we continue to provide surveillance on some high-risk activity points to protect your transactions.”
