Liquid Intelligent Technologies,DropByDrop partner to deliver smart water solutions

Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a subsidiary of Cassava Technologies, has entered into a strategic partnership with DropByDrop Water Systems, a global provider of smart water technologies, to address Kenya’s rising water scarcity through innovative, data-driven water management solutions.

Announcing the partnership in a recent statement, the companies said the collaboration will combine Liquid’s expansive network and advanced digital infrastructure with DropByDrop’s cloud-based water management platform. The goal is to deploy smart water technologies that can help Kenyan utilities reduce non-revenue water—one of the country’s most pressing water management challenges.

Non-revenue water refers to water that is produced but never reaches end-users due to issues like leakage, illegal connections, or inaccurate metering. In Kenya, current estimates show that nearly 47 percent of distributed water remains unaccounted for, significantly limiting the operational efficiency and financial viability of water utilities.

By leveraging real-time data, remote monitoring, and precision tools, the joint solution aims to enhance leak detection, ensure accurate metering, and improve response times to infrastructure failures. These improvements are expected to help utilities increase revenue collection and attract further investment in critical water infrastructure.

“Water scarcity is a growing challenge across the continent, and managing this precious resource efficiently is more important than ever,” said Neeraj Pradhan, acting chief executive officer, Liquid Kenya. “Through our partnership with DropByDrop, we’re bringing Liquid’s advanced technology and data-driven solutions to Kenya’s water sector. By helping providers digitise their infrastructure and build smart water ecosystems, we’re empowering them to serve their communities better.”

The collaboration also addresses broader sustainability goals by supporting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting and tracking progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, the system’s ability to deliver real-time insights will support data-informed decisions around urban planning and infrastructure expansion.

At the technical core of the partnership is the integration of Liquid’s Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure with DropByDrop’s platform. This enables intelligent, efficient water delivery systems enhanced by SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for remote control and monitoring. The integration also includes geo-asset management for preventive maintenance and remote valve control to enable fast shutoffs or operational adjustments in response to system issues.

The solution is built to be inclusive and adaptable. Its multilingual interface and compatibility with diverse network types ensure that it can be deployed across varied regions and user demographics. This inclusivity also supports accurate billing, transparent consumption tracking, and prompt leak alerts, allowing end-users and providers to better manage water resources.

“Water is at the heart of life, yet millions still struggle to access it reliably,” said Sergey Khorolsky, international projects partner at DropByDrop. “At DropByDrop, our mission is to harness the power of data and technology to make every drop count. Leveraging Liquid’s extensive infrastructure enables us to scale our advanced water management platform in Kenya. Together, we’re creating a future where water is managed sustainably, equitably, and intelligently.”

This partnership, the companies added, underscores the transformative potential of technology in solving real-world problems. By embedding digital innovation into water management systems, Liquid and DropByDrop are not only improving service delivery and reducing waste, but also contributing meaningfully to Africa’s broader digital transformation journey.
