Mintslate Media brings diaspora stories on podcast with Kindly Unfiltered launch

Mintslate Media is making its first venture into original productions with the launch of Kindly Unfiltered, a podcast that seeks to carve out a new space in African diaspora storytelling. The series, hosted by Nigerian-Canadian creators Seyi Oluwatimilehin and Wilson Ifeanyi, will debut globally on September 25, 2025 across major podcast platforms.

Unlike many diaspora-focused shows that tilt towards explaining culture to external audiences, Kindly Unfiltered is explicitly designed for those living the experience. Its premise rests on what the hosts describe as the tension and occasional harmony between Nigerian “unfiltered” truth-telling and Canada’s reputation for politeness.

“Kindly Unfiltered lives in the middle of that,” said Oluwatimilehin, better known as Seyi Mint. “But more than anything, it’s about representation—us representing ourselves, by ourselves, so the world finally sees us as we are,”he added.

Episodes will address the day-to-day realities often absent from mainstream portrayals of immigrant life: cross-cultural dating, negotiating identity, and wrestling with the meaning of “home.” Conversations, the producers say, will be candid, humorous and steeped in empathy rather than spectacle.

For Mintslate Media, the show represents a strategic bet on original IP and the rapidly expanding African diaspora podcast market. Industry analysts note that audio has become a crucial medium for cultural communities looking to establish ownership of their narratives. According to PwC’s 2024 Global Entertainment & Media Outlook, Africa and the diaspora represent one of the fastest-growing podcast listener bases worldwide, propelled by smartphone adoption and demand for culturally specific content.

Oluwatimilehin brings both front- and back-of-camera experience to the venture. Before moving to Canada, he was a Nollywood actor, appearing most notably as Dexter in comedian Bovi Ugboma’s series Back to School. Over the past eight years, he has worked behind the camera on more than 40 film and television projects, developing what he describes as a producer’s instinct for authenticity.

That sensibility shapes the production of Kindly Unfiltered. The team emphasises that the show avoids both sanitisation and sensationalism. Instead, it highlights what co-host Ifeanyi calls “the laughter, the awkward family moments, the slang, the humor—the things that make us whole.”

The project arrives at a moment when questions of cultural representation are under scrutiny across media industries. Too often, Africans in diaspora-focused productions are presented with exaggerated accents or caricatures. By foregrounding self-representation, Mintslate Media aims to challenge those tropes while appealing to audiences hungry for authenticity.

“This isn’t just about one show. It’s about building an archive of voices that reflect the fullness of our lives,” said Ifeanyi.

For Mintslate Media, Kindly Unfiltered is both a brand-building move and a test of market appetite. Should the podcast find traction, industry observers are optimistic it could pave the way for further original productions in audio, film and television, tapping into the same demand for representation that streaming platforms are beginning to recognize.

As the podcast goes live this week, the company will be looking not just for download numbers but for resonance. In an increasingly competitive podcasting market, its bet is that a blend of blunt honesty, humor and cultural depth can set it apart.

Kindly Unfiltered officially launches on September 25, 2025, and will be available across all major podcast platforms.
