Almond Awards bridge the gap between insurance and youth

Organisers of the 2025 Almond Insurance Industry Awards have said that this year’s edition is designed to reshape public perception of the Nigerian insurance industry by infusing elements of pop culture, entertainment, and youth engagement into the annual celebration of excellence.

The event, which will be held in Lagos later this month, is being organised by Almond Productions Limited to recognise and reward changemakers and innovators driving transformation across Nigeria’s insurance landscape.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Faith Ughwode, chief executive officer of Almond Productions Limited, said the awards have become a key social platform for bridging the gap between the insurance industry and the general public, particularly Nigeria’s youth, who represent the next generation of policyholders.

“The annual awards are geared towards changing insurance narratives in Nigeria using pop culture, as Nigeria’s current demography is made up of young people who should be the core customers of insurance companies in the country,” Ughwode said.

She noted that for years, the industry has struggled with public mistrust and misconceptions, but platforms like the Almond Awards are helping to foster understanding by presenting insurance in a more relatable and entertaining way.

“The Nigerian insurance industry has battled with issues of mistrust and suspicion from the public for a long time. While we acknowledge that things are changing, social platforms such as the awards  which bring celebrities and industry players together in an atmosphere of fun, have been applauded by industry stakeholders and the insuring public,” she added.

This year’s edition, tagged “#Recharged Edition,” will celebrate outstanding individuals and institutions across nine competitive categories, including Insurance CEO of the Year, General Insurance Company of the Year, Life Insurance Company of the Year, Insurance Broking Company of the Year, Insurance Woman of the Year, Insurance Broker of the Year, Takaful Company of the Year, Microinsurance Company of the Year, and Most Valuable Insurance Customer of the Year.

According to Ughwode, the 2025 edition promises to deliver one of the most vibrant and entertaining experiences yet, with a rich mix of comedy, music, and celebrity appearances designed to connect the industry to the country’s youthful audience.

“We’re taking the experience a notch higher this year. Top-rated comedians such as Creative Toby, Mc Taichi, and Mc Obinna will thrill the audience, while the ‘party shutdown king,’ Slimcase, will headline the musical performances. The legendary Segun Arinze will serve as host,” she revealed.

Beyond the glamour, Ughwode stressed that the essence of the awards remains rooted in public education and industry rebranding, using entertainment as a medium to spark curiosity and interest in insurance among younger Nigerians.

“For a long time, the insurance industry has struggled with issues of mistrust. By blending fun, culture, and recognition, we are building bridges between industry players and the public,” she explained.

Now in its latest edition, the Almond Insurance Industry Awards has evolved into one of the most anticipated events on Nigeria’s insurance calendar, spotlighting both innovation and impact while fostering a more inclusive conversation around the industry’s role in national development.
