Delta’s N39.3bn Ughelli flyover paves way for economic growth

In a significant move to address the persistent traffic congestion in Ughelli, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has launched construction of the N39.3 billion Otovwodo (Ughelli) flyover project. Awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the project is expected to be completed within 12 months, and will significantly reduce travel time, improve road safety, and stimulate economic activities in Ughelli and neighbouring communities.

The flyover, part of the government’s infrastructure renewal programme, will feature dual carriageways, roundabouts, and associated roadworks, connecting the East–West Road with other major arterial routes. The project is designed to address the daily gridlock at the Otovwodo Junction, which has been a major concern for residents and commuters.

“This project represents a major milestone in our administration’s infrastructure renewal programme, and we are committed to seeing it through to completion,” Governor Oborevwori said. “The flyover will not only improve traffic flow but also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boosting the local economy”.

The project is expected to have a significant impact on the state’s economy, with the potential to unlock new business opportunities and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. The state government has assured that the project will be delivered without resorting to borrowing, with several completed projects across the state awaiting commissioning.

Managing director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Peer Lubasch, said the the flyover will be delivered on schedule and to internationally accepted standards.

Key highlights of the project include a 12-month completion timeline, dual carriageways, roundabouts, and associated roadworks, thousands of direct and indirect jobs to be created, and expected to stimulate economic activities in Ughelli and neighbouring communities.

The government said the project is a testament to the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development and its focus on creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. With the groundbreaking ceremony, Delta State is one step closer to resolving its traffic woes and unlocking its economic potential.
