On Wednesday, July 15th, four of the emails that landed in two of my inboxes were notifications about returns on my modest investments. Two were from the Federal Republic, while the remaining were from across the Atlantic.
In other words, two of them were naturally from Nigerian investments, the other two came in from laying down the markers in the United States. While those from Nigeria were more than those of America, it is actually the tiny returns from the latter that I’m mentioning.
To do that, yours truly will be citing excerpts from the two emails that notified me of the returns. The first went thus, “your investment in Realty Income Corporation just rewarded you with a dividend. That’s money in your pocket – earned simply by holding your shares.” It then said the “dividend received” was just “$0.02.” Oouch!
The second notification email was of the same format and said: “great news. Your investment in Main Street Capital Corporation just rewarded you with a dividend.” The “dividend received “ was “$0.03.”
Here’s the thing. From 2020 till last year, the two companies didn’t know I existed and neither did they send notifications of dividend payments. The reason is because I had no investments there in any of those years. Thank goodness, that’s no longer the situation.
Having therefore earned insignificant returns, yours truly knows exactly what to do for them to grow. That’s why one is celebrating and making some noise. The principle matters, just as much as the returns on investments.
For future celebrations, even if one is unable to get Burma Boy’s attention, a juju musician like the one that played at a 70th birthday in Woolwich, in May might be considerate and mention my name if we meet again at another function.
