Access leads Nigeria’s CFA talent race with 82 candidates

Access leads Nigeria’s CFA talent race with 82 candidates

Access Holdings has emerged as Nigeria’s largest employer of CFA candidates, with 82 professionals enrolled in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Programme, highlighting a growing race among financial institutions to build investment expertise and globally recognised talent from within.

New data from CFA Society Nigeria shows that Access had more than twice the number of CFA candidates recorded at the next-ranked institution, which had 38 candidates, placing the financial services group well ahead of other banks and financial institutions nationwide.

The ranking, contained in CFA Society Nigeria’s Where Nigeria’s Finance Professionals Work series and based on its Salesforce Membership Database as of June 2026, offers a fresh measure of institutional strength in Nigeria’s financial services industry that is centred not on assets, branches or market share, but on the depth of professionally trained investment talent.

Access also ranked second among employers of CFA charterholders, with 11 professionals who have completed all three levels of the CFA Programme and fulfilled the required experience and ethics standards.

The figures underscore the extent to which professional qualifications are becoming an increasingly important component of talent strategy as Nigerian financial institutions compete for relevance in increasingly sophisticated domestic and international markets.

Talent emerges as new competitive frontier

For decades, competition among Nigeria’s financial institutions has largely been measured through conventional indicators such as balance-sheet size, deposits, loan books, profitability, branch networks and customer numbers.

The CFA Society Nigeria data points to which institutions are developing the strongest pipeline of investment professionals.

Access’s 82 CFA candidates represent a substantial pipeline of professionals pursuing one of the finance industry’s most recognised global qualifications.

Beyond the immediate benefit to the institution, the development of CFA candidates potentially expands the pool of professionals equipped with formal training in investment analysis, portfolio management, ethics and financial decision-making.

CFA Society Nigeria said the exercise was intended to recognise employers whose professionals “bring rigour, integrity and global best practices into the workplace every day.”

From recruitment to institution-building

Innocent C. Ike, Access Holdings group chief executive officer said the ranking reflected the group’s commitment to developing institutions and professionals capable of delivering sustainable value.

“Every candidate on that list represents our commitment to building institutions and professionals that endure,” Ike said.

The emphasis on candidates, rather than only existing charterholders, is significant because the figures capture the scale of the institution’s future talent pipeline.

While 11 Access professionals have already attained the CFA charter, the 82 candidates enrolled in the programme indicate a much larger cohort progressing towards the qualification.

That distinction places greater focus on the sustainability of the group’s talent strategy and its ability to convert professional development into deeper institutional expertise over time.

Global ambitions driving talent investment

The development also aligns with Access Holdings’ stated ambition to become the World’s Most Respected African Financial Services Group.

For a financial institution seeking to expand across markets and compete with international players, professional expertise can become an important differentiator as business models become more complex and financial markets increasingly interconnected.

The CFA qualification is particularly relevant to investment management, capital markets, risk analysis and other areas where technical competence, ethical standards and global investment practices are central to decision-making.

Access’s position at the top of the CFA candidate ranking therefore provides an indication of where the group is directing part of its institutional investment into building human capital capable of supporting an extensive financial services platform.
