Obsidian puts 500 fashion talents on hiring pipeline

Fifth fashion career fair links trained candidates with 100+ businesses amid industry skills gaps

Obsidian puts 500 fashion talents on hiring pipeline

Obsidian Advisory Africa is putting 500 trained fashion talents on a structured recruitment pipeline for more than 100 businesses as it convenes industry players in Lagos for the fifth edition of its Fashion Career Fair on October 22 and 23, 2026.

The workforce development firm said this year’s edition is designed to address the challenge of converting skills development into actual employment and business opportunities, persistent in Nigeria’s creative economy.

The two-day programme will combine a virtual talent summit, an employer forum and an in-person career fair, with recruitment at the centre of the initiative.

Obsidian said the programme reflects a shift from simply training young people to creating clearer pathways between skills, employers and jobs.

Central to the 2026 edition is the firm’s Sprint Recruitment Program (SRP), which has trained 500 fashion talents for roles considered in demand across the fashion value chain.

Unlike a conventional career fair where employers and job seekers meet for the first time at the event, SRP participants will be pre-matched with participating businesses based on skills and role fit.

The arrangement is intended to give businesses access to a more targeted pool of trained candidates while improving the prospects of talents moving from training into employment.

Damilola Ademilokun, founder and chief executive officer of Obsidian Advisory Africa, said the organisation’s objective goes beyond providing a meeting point for employers and job seekers.

“We’re not just creating a space for talent and employers to meet. We’re building the infrastructure that gets people hired,” Ademilokun said.

He said the SRP allows Obsidian to prepare talents for positions businesses actually need while giving employers a clearer view of available talent.

The event opens on October 22 with a Virtual Talent Summit, giving fashion talents across Nigeria access to discussions around careers, skills and opportunities in the industry.

The programme moves to Lagos on October 23 for the Fashion Employer Town Hall and Fashion Career Fair.

The Employer Town Hall will bring fashion businesses and industry stakeholders together to discuss workforce requirements, skills shortages and recruitment challenges before the career fair opens for direct engagement, networking and potential on-the-spot hiring.

The employer-focused component is intended to ensure that workforce needs are incorporated into the talent-development process rather than addressed only after training has been completed.

The Fashion Career Fair forms part of Obsidian Advisory Africa’s exclusive workforce development activities.

The firm has worked with organisations including the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Jobberman, Mastercard Foundation, GIZ and Ethnocentrique on programmes designed to respond to employment and workforce needs.

Its latest fashion-focused intervention places employers more directly within the skills-development and recruitment process.

The model could also provide businesses with a more efficient route to identifying talent as Nigeria’s creative economy continues to develop.

The decision to begin with a virtual summit is expected to extend access beyond Lagos, allowing fashion talents from different parts of Nigeria to participate in career and skills discussions.

The physical fair in Lagos will then concentrate the employer engagement and recruitment activities.

With 500 talents already trained and more than 100 businesses expected to participate, the organisation is seeking to create a pipeline in which employer demand informs training, training produces job-ready candidates, and recruitment follows with greater precision.
