5G mobile subscriptions are expected to hit 2.8 billion subscribers at 55 percent coverage rate by 2025 according to a report by Buy Shares.

If the projection proves right, it will mean that about 35.8 percent of the world’s current population will be connected to 5G mobile by 2025.

Similarly, it has been projected that North-East Asia will account for a majority of the world’s 5G users by 2025 with Buy Shares proposing that about 1.3 billion users are expected to be from the region.

The report notes that there will be a total of 243 million 5G mobile subscribers around the world in 2021, a figure that represents a 203.5 percent growth from the number of users in 2020.

5G mobile subscriptions are expected to see a year-on-year growth with the report projecting that there will be 680 million subscribers in 2022, 1.30 billion subscribers in 2023, and 1.9 billion subscriptions in 2024, respectively before hitting the projected number of 2.8 billion subscribers in 2025.

The report points out that the hype around the 5G network as well as the numerous benefits that it provides are the key factors driving its adoption.

According to the report, “With the much-hyped network, the combination of speed, responsiveness, and reach has the potential to unlock the full capabilities of other trends in technology. The network will play a vital role in enhancing the full capability of self-driving cars, drones, virtual reality, and the internet of things.”

In another vein, the report notes that 5G coverage rate currently standing at 7% is expected to grow from its current standing to hit 55% in 2025.
