VSF gifts medical, covid-19 equipment to 3000 households in Imo State

The Imo State government has taken delivery of medical and covid-19 equipment, as well as food items for on behalf of 3000 households from Victims Support Foundation Fund Covid-19 Task-Force Committee.

The VSF handed over the items to the government for distribution to about 3000 vulnerable households and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Owerri West local government area of the state.

Charging the government to ensure even distribution of the various food items to the vulnerable households and IDPs, the VSF also commissioned a gigantic solar powered borehole facility at the Central School Umuokire Okuku, in Owerri West local government area (LGA) of the state and appealed that the facility should be well protected to avoid destruction.

Theophilus Danjuma, a retired general and chairman, VSF, while commissioning the facility said that it was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the victims in Imo State.

Danjuma, represented at the commissioning ceremony by Toyosi Akinrele Ogunsiyi, said that the body donated the facility as part of its mandate to respond to the victims of terrorism in the North East and parts of the country.

Danjuma said that the committee is charged with the responsibility to travel to all parts of the country to provide food items, water, handwashing equipment, sanitizers, medical equipment, among others, to the victims of terrorism.

The committee, before visiting Imo State as number 30, had already visited some other states in the country and assured that the committee would visit the remaining states of the federation before the end of the year. He expressed satisfaction for the cooperation and support from members of the Okuku community in Owerri West.

On the food items, Danjuma appealed to the state government to endeavour and ensure that they distribute the items to the beneficiaries.

In a short remark, Jude Okparanozue, head-teacher, Central School, Umuokire Okuku, while thanking the committee for choosing his school out of others for the project assured them of judicious use of the facility as well as adequate protection on the project.

Meanwhile, Placid Njoku, deputy governor of Imo State, paid a special tribute to Danjuma for setting up the committee to alleviate the pains and sufferings of the terrorism victims in the country with Imo State inclusive.

He decried the pains and hardship that Covid-19 had brought to the people, including the economy of the state and the country.

The deputy governor assured the committee that the state government would leave no stone unturned in making sure that victims of the Covid-19 in the state received their food items.
