Nigeria’s gas liquefaction company NLNG says it is driving its corporate social responsibility (CSR) on developing infrastructure, empowerment, health and education for the benefit of the country, particularly its host communities.
The company said it is consistently looking towards the future and is harnessing prospects towards a sustainable outlook.
Recently, the gas company, which is building its Train 7 LNG plant at the cost of $7 billion, assured it will continue with its 100 percent domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) production, mainly propane and butane for the Nigerian market, in what gas value chain analysts say would positively affect the cooking gas domestic prices in the country.

Recall that late last year, the company achieved a milestone with the supply of its first propane cargo into the domestic market, developing a scheme to sustainably supply the product for usage in cooking gas blending, as well as in agro-allied, autogas, power and petrochemical sectors of the Nigerian economy to further deepen gas utilisation in Nigeria.
According to Andy Odeh, NLNG’s general manager, external relations and sustainable development, the company was equally promoting science, technology and innovation (STI) among young Nigerian students for the future sustainable development outlook.
Last week, the gas liquefaction company held a science quiz competition among secondary schools in its host communities in Rivers State as a platform for future self-development.
Odeh said NLNG will continue to invest in the educational value chain to support the aspirations of young Nigerians.
This year’s competition comes after the pilot edition in 2021 on Bonny Island, the company’s operational base. The competition is open to secondary schools in Rivers State, in partnership with the Rivers State Ministry of Education and the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Rivers State chapter.
Odeh said the competition’s goal is to inspire healthy competition among the youth and to spur interest in science and technology as a way of equipping young minds for nation-building.
He said the company is committed to a CSR thrust toward youth development in Nigeria, as inspired by its vision of being “a globally competitive LNG company, helping to build a better Nigeria”.
“We dream of a sustainable future, wherein our inputs into today would materialise as gains for tomorrow. Our children will grow to take their places in civilization and prosper with a standard of life that assures their progeny of a bright future. But dreams are one thing; taking credible steps in determining our dreams’ realistic outcomes is another. NLNG’s business was once a dream nurtured by sheer grit to become the globally competitive company it is today,” he said.
NLNG is owned by four Shareholders, namely, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (49%), Shell Gas B.V. (25.6%), TotalEnergies Gaz & Electricité Holdings (15%), and Eni International N.A. N. V. S.àr.l (10.4%).
