Staff of PZ Cussons Nigeria PLC recently took to the streets to demonstrate their connection to their communities and their commitment to environmental conservation.

The project, known as CARE (Clean And Restore the Environment), aims to reduce waste and promote environmental protection. The CARE project’s three key objectives are: disposing of plastics properly, practicing the three Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), and participating in tree planting.

The initiative was aimed at ensuring a safe and clean environment in the workplace and at home. Under the leadership of human and administrative director, Joyce F. Coker, the staff took a day off from their usual work schedule to clean the streets of Lagos and remove plastic and other solid and non-degradable waste from the environment.

The company noted that the project is part of its broader Sustainability Governance System under the Economic Social Governance (ESG) framework, which is aimed at protecting the planet by minimizing the impact on the environment, atmosphere, earth, and oceans. Some of the specific focus areas under this system include reducing the use of plastics and other packaging materials, minimising carbon emissions, conserving water, and supporting local communities.

In her opening remarks at the campaign, the HR director reminded the staff, regardless of their hierarchical status, of the many benefits of caring for the environment. She emphasiaed the advantages of clear skies and clean water, reduced risk of illness, and a happier and healthier world where all living creatures can thrive. She also noted that by taking small actions like cleaning up the environment, we can make a big difference in the world and in our lives.
