NNPCL restores oil production of 275,000 bpd at TotalEnergies

…Resolves PENGASSAN-Total Energies management rift

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has successfully restored oil production at TotalEnergies’ operations to 275,000 barrels per day.

Olufemi Soneye,NNPCL’s chief corporate communications officer, announced the restoration of production in a statement on November 12.

Soneye,in the statement made available to Business a.m, explained that the NNPCL had successfully brokered a peace deal between Total Energies, operator of the NNPC/Total JV,the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN), and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

Following a long and intense negotiation session, which was chaired by Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan,NNPCL’s executive vice president of the upstream division, a communique was issued, bringing an end to the dispute and paving the way for the resumption of production. The communique detailed the terms of the agreement, which included a commitment to restore production to its previous levels and resolve any outstanding issues between the parties. This was seen as a positive development by all parties involved.

Matthieu Bouyer, managing director and CEO of TotalEnergies; Festus Osifo, president of PENGASSAN; and Williams Akporeha, president of NUPENG, all signed the communique, signaling their commitment to resolving the dispute and restoring production. The communique was witnessed by Bala Wunti, chief upstream investment Officer of NNPCL, and Victor Bandele, deputy managing director of TotalEnergies.

Under the deal, the two unions agreed to end their industrial action and restore oil production to its pre-dispute level of 275,000 barrels per day. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited noted that the agreement would enable it to maintain the safety and sustainability of its operations, while also ensuring a steady supply of oil to the market.

The NNPCL’s chief corporate communications office expressed the company’s gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the resolution of the industrial dispute and the restoration of oil production. He also noted that the NNPCL remains committed to ensuring the safety, security, and sustainability of its operations.

During the meeting,Festus Osifo, president of PENGASSAN, stated that the association has reached an agreement and is committed to every aspect of it. He further stated that PENGASSAN has resolved to restore normalcy to all offices and field locations immediately. To this end, the association will communicate to its members and urge them to resume work without delay.
