William George Ngerem, AIMAN, president

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation sector will on Wednesday, the 15th of May, 2024 gather at the Lagos Travel Inn, Toyin Street, Ikeja for the 2024 World Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) Day celebration, being organised by the Aeronautical Information Management Association of Nigeria (AIMAN).

With the theme: Efficient Data Management in an Automated Environment, industry experts are expected to brainstorm on the critical role of automation in the collation, editing, formatting and dissemination of aeronautical information as it enhances the overall efficiency and safety of air navigation in the country.

According to a statement signed by William George Ngerem, president of AIMAN, the theme of this year’s event was informed by the huge investment the federal government was making in the area of deployment of facilities for the imminent takeoff of the AIS automation in the country.

The statement hinted that the event would attract industry bigwigs such as Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development; Chris Najomo, acting director general, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); Joseph Shaka Amalighwe, acting rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), and Ahmed Umar Farouk, the MD, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), who also will be the chief host.

Also, Godwin Balang, director, aerodrome and airspace standards, NCAA, will superintend the event as chairman, while the keynote and celebration addresses will be delivered by Ahmad Abba, director, special duties, NAMA, and John Tayo, director of air traffic services, NAMA, respectively.

The World AIS Day celebration is an annual event observed by all contracting states in accordance with the declaration by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to facilitate better professional practices and enlighten the public on the importance of aeronautical information services as a safety critical profession in the aviation industry.
