AXA Mansard, LG Electronics launch free malaria insurance for Nigerians

AXA Mansard Health has partnered with LG Electronics to launch a free malaria insurance initiative targeted at Nigerians, particularly LG customers, in a bid to reduce the growing toll of malaria across the country.

The initiative, introduced under LG’s “Life’s Good Care” Campaign, seeks to promote healthier communities and ease the financial burden of malaria treatment by offering free health insurance coverage to beneficiaries. It reflects both companies’ commitment to improving public health through innovation, accessibility, and shared social responsibility.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), about 250 million malaria cases were recorded globally in 2023, with Nigeria accounting for 26 percent, the highest proportion in the world. Nigeria, along with a few other African nations, represented nearly half of all global malaria cases, underscoring the disease’s persistent threat in the region.

Through the partnership, AXA Mansard Health and LG Electronics are addressing this challenge by providing insurance coverage for malaria treatment, expanding access to quality healthcare, and raising awareness about preventive measures.

Speaking during the official unveiling in Lagos, Hyoung Sub Ji, managing director of LG Electronics West Africa, said the company’s involvement stems from its belief that corporate responsibility should extend beyond product innovation.

“Malaria continues to pose a serious health and economic threat to millions of families,” Ji said, adding,  “Our commitment goes beyond innovative technology; it’s about improving lives. Partnering with AXA Mansard allows us to deliver practical healthcare protection to the people who matter most — our customers and communities.”

Also speaking at the event, Jumoke Odunlami, chief distribution officer at AXA Mansard and director, AXA Mansard Health, described the initiative as part of the company’s effort to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and inclusive, particularly for preventable diseases like malaria.

“By working with LG, we’re expanding the reach of our malaria insurance plans to protect more families and make a meaningful impact. One of the key lessons from 2020 is that healthcare remains a universal priority. Regardless of age, gender, or background, we must continue to develop sustainable and innovative solutions that address people’s health needs,” Odunlami said.

Under the new partnership, LG Electronics customers will have access to AXA Mansard Health’s Standard, Classic, and Premium Malaria-Care Plans, each designed to improve access to timely and quality healthcare services.

Beneficiaries will enjoy telemedicine services, allowing them to consult with qualified doctors remotely, access prescribed drugs at accredited pharmacies with free delivery within Lagos, and receive treatment at recognised hospitals across Nigeria.

The Premium Care Plan offers an added layer of protection, providing comprehensive malaria coverage and access to over 1,000 hospitals nationwide, ensuring customers can receive medical attention whenever and wherever it’s needed.

To qualify for the one-year free insurance package, beneficiaries must be LG customers who have purchased the LG Air Conditioner or LG Dual Cool Air Conditioner from any authorised retail store nationwide.

The partnership reflects LG’s broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda under its “Life’s Good Care Campaign,” which promotes initiatives that support families, enhance health outcomes, and strengthen communities.

For AXA Mansard, the collaboration aligns with its mission to expand health insurance coverage and provide innovative solutions that make quality healthcare more attainable for Nigerians.
