The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has elected Akinjide Orimolade as its new President, marking the beginning of a new administration focused on collaboration, industry development and strengthening public confidence in insurance.
Orimolade succeeds Yetunde Ilori, whose tenure as President ended after years of leadership and contributions to the growth of the institute and the wider insurance sector.
His election, alongside the emergence of Adetutu Arusiuka as deputy president, was confirmed during the Institute’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
In his acceptance speech at the AGM, Orimolade pledged to build on the achievements of previous administrations while promoting stronger cooperation among insurance stakeholders to advance the profession.
He said his administration would prioritise teamwork, improved industry reputation and initiatives aimed at deepening trust in insurance among Nigerians.
“Just to assure you again, with NIIRA 2025, I think it is an opportunity for us to be able to upscale and do good things in the industry. I can tell you that the various bodies—the NCRIB, the NIA, and ILAN—will all work together and make it a reality. It is a new dawn in the insurance industry and by the grace of God, He will help us,” Orimolade said.
The new CIIN president also emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the institute’s objectives, noting that the transformation of the insurance sector requires the contributions of all industry players.
“I will continue to count on your support and advice because, whether we like it or not, a single individual cannot make this happen alone. It is teamwork. I am going to rely heavily on the advice of everyone here. Rest assured, I will be a listening ear and by the grace of God, we will move the industry in the right direction,” he added.
Orimolade brings extensive experience from across Nigeria’s insurance industry, having held senior leadership positions in several major insurance institutions.
He is currently the managing director and chief executive officer of Stanbic IBTC Insurance. Before joining the company, he served as managing director and chief executive officer of Law Union & Rock Insurance Plc Group, where he was credited with driving growth and strengthening institutional structures.
His professional career also includes leadership roles at AIICO Insurance Plc, where he served as Executive Director (Technical and Marketing) and later Chief Executive; Liberty Life as Regional Director for West Africa; Zenith Insurance as Chief Executive Officer; Sovereign Trust Insurance as Assistant General Manager; Central Insurance Company as Unit Head of Marketing; Bullion Insurance Brokers as Deputy Manager; and Financial Assurance Company, where he began his career as a Superintendent Officer.
Beyond his industry experience, Orimolade holds a professional life insurance qualification from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Canada, reflecting his international exposure and technical expertise.
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (FIIN), a recognition of his contribution and commitment to the insurance profession.
