CIIN president, Igbiti, highlights insurance benefits for Nigeria youth

Edwin Igbiti, the president of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), has urged young Nigerians to gain a better understanding of the value of insurance and incorporate it into their financial planning  amid the growing uncertainty in the world.

According to Igbiti, insurance is often misunderstood or overlooked by young people, who may not see the value in paying for something that they may never need.

However, he argues that the peace of mind that insurance provides is worth the cost. He also emphasised that even if someone never has to file a claim, knowing that they are protected in the event of a disaster can make a huge difference in their overall well-being.

Igbiti, who spoke recently in Lagos, at the special insurance awareness programme designed specifically for secondary school students by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, stated that the project was aimed at making students understand the importance of insurance at an early age, as it is crucial to the Institute’s agenda of catching them young.

He noted that the event was designed to equip students with the knowledge and awareness they need to make informed decisions in the future.

The CIIN president  described the event as an opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of insurance, its importance, and how it can help to secure their financial future, adding that students would learn about the different types of insurance available and how they can benefit from various types of coverage, to protect themselves against financial risk.

“Our hope is that you will leave here with a deeper understanding of why insurance matters. You will also learn about the importance of being responsible and taking steps to protect yourselves and your possessions,” he added.
