Cornerstone taps Curacel to transform motor insurance with AI inspections

Joy Agwunobi

Cornerstone Insurance Plc has taken a step in digital innovation with the deployment of an AI-powered remote vehicle inspection system, developed in partnership with Curacel, a leading artificial intelligence platform for insurers across Africa.

The collaboration introduces a fully automated, web-based inspection process that allows customers to conduct pre-policy and post-accident vehicle assessments remotely, cutting down processing time from days to minutes and significantly reducing the need for physical field inspections.

Under the new system, customers receive a secure web link that guides them through a simple video capture process using their smartphone or any internet-enabled device—no app download required. The video, typically lasting about a minute, is then instantly analysed by Curacel’s AI engine, which detects visible damage, verifies video integrity, and generates a structured inspection report.

The AI-powered workflow also performs automated Nigeria Insurance Industry Database (NIID) validity checks and feeds the results directly into Cornerstone’s “Cici” platform for policy issuance or claims processing.

According to Curacel, this solution replaces the traditional, time-consuming field visits with a seamless digital experience combining computer vision, fraud prevention, and real-time integration with Cornerstone’s operational systems.

With the introduction of this remote inspection system, Cornerstone Insurance has redefined how quickly and accurately motor policies are processed and claims are verified.

These advances not only improve turnaround time for customers but also strengthen internal workflows, allowing adjusters to focus more on decision-making rather than manual verification.

Speaking on the partnership, Oluwarotimi Adedeji, deputy chief technology officer at Cornerstone Insurance Plc, said the new workflow was designed with the customer at its core.

“We rebuilt inspections around the customer,a web link, guided capture, AI analysis, Cici integration, and NIID checks. Every assessment an adjuster needs is now done by AI within minutes,” he stated.

The partnership aligns with broader market priorities such as digitalisation, fraud prevention, and improved service quality, underscoring Cornerstone’s commitment to driving innovation in Nigeria’s insurance landscape.

By bringing AI-driven remote inspections into live production, Cornerstone Insurance joins a growing list of forward-thinking insurers leveraging practical artificial intelligence to deliver measurable impact for both policyholders and internal teams.

The Curacel-powered workflow is already live and operational at Cornerstone and is expected to scale across multiple motor insurance use cases in the coming months, marking a pivotal moment for the company’s ongoing digital transformation.

Through this collaboration, Cornerstone not only enhances efficiency and customer experience but also demonstrates how technology can redefine the speed, transparency, and reliability of motor insurance services in Nigeria’s fast-evolving insurance market.
