Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has launched a nationwide whistleblower programme offering a N500,000 cash reward for credible information leading to the arrest of individuals involved in the illegal use of its branded trucks, as Africa’s largest industrial conglomerate intensifies efforts to protect its logistics network from fraud and unauthorised commercial activities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the company said the whistleblower programme forms part of measures aimed at preserving the integrity of its nationwide transportation operations, strengthening supply chain security and ensuring compliance with internal logistics policies.
The move also reflects the increasing importance of logistics governance for large manufacturers as Nigeria’s industrial sector expands and companies seek to minimise operational risks, cargo diversion and reputational damage.
Dangote Industries operates one of Nigeria’s most extensive distribution systems, supporting businesses spanning cement, sugar, salt, fertiliser, petrochemicals and packaging materials.
The company’s truck fleet plays a critical role in moving raw materials and finished products across the country, linking manufacturing plants with distributors, wholesalers and industrial customers.
According to the company, only designated products are authorised for transportation on trucks belonging to each subsidiary.
Dangote Cement vehicles, for instance, are approved exclusively for the movement of cement, limestone, clinker, coal and high-grade gypsum.
Dangote Sugar Refinery trucks are restricted to sugar products, while vehicles operated by NASCON Allied Industries are designated solely for Dangote Salt and DanQ seasoning products.
Similarly, Dangote Packaging trucks are permitted to transport bags and packaging materials, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals vehicles are authorised for polypropylene products, while Dangote Fertiliser Limited trucks are designated exclusively for urea fertiliser.
The company warned that any truck found transporting unauthorised goods would be regarded as engaging in illegal haulage activities.
Tougher sanctions for offenders
Dangote Industries said individuals involved in unauthorised use of its vehicles face serious legal consequences.
Drivers operating company trucks outside approved business purposes, as well as owners of illegally transported goods, risk arrest, confiscation of cargo and prosecution by law enforcement authorities.
The company disclosed that security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, have been empowered to apprehend drivers found using Dangote trucks for unauthorised commercial haulage.
The tougher enforcement measures highlight the growing emphasis Nigerian manufacturers are placing on supply chain integrity as logistics becomes an increasingly critical component of business performance.
Beyond financial losses, unauthorised haulage exposes companies to operational disruptions, insurance complications, regulatory liabilities and reputational risks.
N500,000 incentive for whistleblowers
To encourage public participation, Dangote Industries announced a N500,000 cash reward for individuals who provide verifiable information leading to the arrest of offenders or the recovery of goods illegally transported using its trucks.
The company urged prospective whistleblowers to provide comprehensive details to assist investigations, including the truck type, registration number, cab number, location, description of the goods being transported, vehicle colour and photographs where available.
Dedicated reporting hotlines have also been established across the group’s operations to facilitate prompt reporting of suspected violations.
According to the company, public cooperation remains essential to eliminating logistics-related fraud across its transportation network.
Strengthening corporate governance
The whistleblower programme represents another step in Dangote Industries’ efforts to strengthen corporate governance, operational transparency and internal compliance across its businesses.
As one of Africa’s largest manufacturing groups, the company manages an extensive logistics ecosystem that supports the movement of millions of tonnes of products annually across Nigeria and several African markets.
Industry analysts note that safeguarding logistics assets has become increasingly important as rising transportation costs, expanding distribution networks and growing commercial activity create greater incentives for unauthorised use of corporate fleets.
For large industrial companies, stronger monitoring systems not only reduce operational losses but also improve supply chain efficiency, customer confidence and regulatory compliance.
The initiative aligns with a growing trend among major corporations to leverage whistleblower mechanisms as part of enterprise risk management strategies.
Such programmes have increasingly become important tools for detecting fraud, preventing asset misuse and strengthening accountability across complex business operations.
Implications for the manufacturing sector
The introduction of financial incentives for whistleblowers also underscores the strategic importance of logistics to Nigeria’s manufacturing industry.
Efficient transportation remains one of the biggest determinants of production costs, inventory management and product availability across the country.
Any disruption arising from vehicle diversion, cargo substitution or unauthorised commercial haulage can significantly affect supply chains, delivery schedules and overall operational efficiency.
Analysts believe that tighter control over logistics assets could help manufacturers improve fleet utilisation, reduce losses and enhance the reliability of distribution networks at a time when businesses continue to grapple with rising operating costs.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against logistics-related fraud, the company said the whistleblower programme is designed to strengthen transparency, accountability and lawful business practices across its operations.
“Public cooperation remains critical in our efforts to eradicate illegal haulage activities. We encourage anyone with credible information to come forward and help us maintain the integrity of our transportation system,” the company stated.Â
