Delta Airline has hit an important milestone as it marks fifteen years of nonstop service connecting Nigeria and the United States with the airlift of over 1. 6 million passengers.

The airline launched its first flight between Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on 04 December 2007 and continues to operate year-round daily service between the cities using 223-seat A330-200 aircraft.

“We are extremely proud to be marking 15 years of flying to Nigeria and, thanks to the support of the airport, government authorities and the local community, our service from Lagos to Atlanta has remained strong in connecting Nigeria to the world.

“Since we started service to Lagos, we have flown over 1.65 million passengers on Delta flights between Nigeria and the United States and carried around 20,000 thousand tonnes of cargo between the two countries, reflecting the importance of our service and commitment to the market,” said Jimmy Eichelgruen, Delta’s regional sales manager for Africa.

Enhanced onboard service and network

Customers travelling on Delta from Lagos benefit from convenient connections to more than 200 destinations via Atlanta to cities such as Washington DC, New York, Orlando and Los Angeles.

The airline’s recently refurbished A330-200 aircraft offers customers a choice in how they want to enjoy the travel journey, with all four product experiences that Delta offers – Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin. Customers travelling in Delta One enjoy refreshed amenities and services, including artisan-made Someone Somewhere amenity kits, soft and comfortable bedding made from recycled materials, pre-departure beverage service, chef-curated three-course meals and decadent desserts featuring ice cream sundaes.

Delta Premium Select, the airline’s premium economy cabin, includes more space to relax and stretch out with a wider seat with deeper recline and an adjustable footrest and leg rest. These customers also receive artisan-made amenity kits, noise-cancelling headsets, blankets and memory-foam pillows to help them arrive rested and refreshed. The Delta Premium Select experience also includes an elevated dining experience and premium service touchpoints.

All customers have access to Wi-Fi onboard for purchase and Delta’s best-in-class seatback entertainment, while powering up their own devices with in-seat power and USB ports.

Delta operates to five cities in four African countries: Accra, Ghana; Dakar, Senegal; Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa; and Lagos, Nigeria. Delta operates a one-year Business Internship Programme in four African nations including Nigeria, enabling students to build on their experience working in a global organisation. Delta also supports Junior Achievement Africa.
