Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence assistant has surpassed 1 billion monthly users, marking a major milestone for the technology giant as adoption of generative AI tools continues to expand across voice, education, business and everyday tasks.
Google disclosed the milestone in a statement, describing Gemini as the fastest-growing product in the company’s history and highlighting changing patterns in how users interact with the AI assistant.
According to the company, voice has become a major part of Gemini usage, with 63 percent of users now interacting with the assistant through voice. Google said the number of users relying exclusively on voice has also increased, while busy parents are 43 percent more likely to use voice for everyday tasks.
Gemini’s capabilities are also extending beyond traditional text-based interactions, with Google reporting that one in five Gemini Live interactions involves more than voice, including the use of live camera feeds and screen sharing.
The company said these features are particularly popular among do-it-yourself users and students who use the AI assistant for real-time problem solving.
Students are also increasingly using attachments in their interactions with Gemini. Google said 38 percent of school-related requests include an attachment, suggesting growing use of the platform to analyse and work with additional learning materials.
The AI assistant is also gaining traction among small businesses, particularly through its generative media capabilities. Google said Gemini now generates more than 150 million images every day, while users can create images, video and audio within the same platform.
The company said these capabilities are helping small businesses produce materials such as marketing content and other creative assets.
On Android devices, Gemini has also expanded its ability to perform tasks across more than 40 popular applications. Google said users can use the assistant to automate activities including booking rides and making restaurant reservations.
Meanwhile, Gemini’s presence on Apple devices continues to grow, with more than 100 million active users now accessing the assistant on iOS.
Google added that power users on macOS are prompting Gemini approximately twice as frequently as users on other platforms, highlighting what the company described as strong engagement among desktop users.
The 1 billion monthly-user milestone comes as Google continues to position Gemini as a central component of its AI strategy, with the company seeking to expand the assistant’s ability to understand users, anticipate their needs and perform tasks across different environments.
