Have you done your half -year review?

Make no mistake about it, we’re not only in the second half of the year, you need to not let anything prevent you from taking out the time to review your financial goals. Ooooouch!

Without stopping and making out the time to do a review, you’ll probably be under the illusion that you’re on track to achieving them. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here are just three questions to ask yourself in order to do a mini review.

Firstly, did I make any mistakes in the just ended first half? If the answer is no, then you’ll need to keep doing what you did between January and June ending. Perhaps, you didn’t order any takeaways through Uber Eats or eat out at all. Keep at it then.

Another question you need to ask yourself is, were there any leakages in my finances? That could be in the form of buying what you don’t need or subscribing to a service that is just not good enough. For example, If food was repeatedly getting rotten in your fridge or cupboard, that may be something you wouldn’t want to continue in this second half of the year.

A third question you shouldn’t shy away from is, am I earning enough money? Maybe you’re a student or school teacher and you’re finding it difficult to survive, you’ll do well to review what you can cut from your expenditure. You may also wish to figure out how to bring in more bucks.

As an extra, to do your half year review, go through your bank statements of the past six months. Yours truly himself will be doing his, by making sure he pops inside one of the branches of his banks to request for his statements. Hoping to get that done before the final of the World Cup on Sunday.

Mixing business with pleasure: Thursday, July 2, was the annual general meeting (AGM) of Dangote Cement.

Having missed a couple of other companies’ AGMs, the plan was to not increase the tally. Thank goodness, I’d ticked off what took me to London Victoria station before the AGM started at 11am.

Yours truly then secured a seat at the Wetherspoon restaurant and over two slices of toast and coffee breakfast, I spent over an hour watching proceedings from Lagos. I tagged along till just after noon. A fellow shareholder had the floor then. If you are a shareholder, wherever you are in the world, companies now make it possible for you to follow proceedings virtually during their AGMs. You need to know how the company you have invested in is being run.
