NANTA launches Nigeria-Ghana tourism mission to expand regional travel

The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) has launched a seven-day business and tourism mission to Ghana aimed at expanding tourism cooperation between Nigeria and Ghana, promoting intra-African travel and creating new opportunities for businesses across the regional travel industry.

The retreat and familiarisation tour, hosted by Safari World, is themed “Africa for Africa: Tourism, Unity and Shared Growth.” The programme brings together tourism operators from both countries to explore practical opportunities for destination marketing, business collaboration and regional tourism development.

Leading the Nigerian delegation, Yinka Folami, NANTA President,  said the mission is designed to build practical tourism partnerships through joint travel packages, collaborative destination marketing and stronger business relationships between operators in both countries.

The initiative is expected to create commercial opportunities for airlines, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies and hospitality businesses by encouraging more regional travel and  tourist traffic between Nigeria and Ghana. It also aims to improve business connections across the tourism value chain while encouraging greater private sector investment.

As part of the mission, the delegation will visit Safari World’s tourism facilities in Accra, Ada and Dawu to evaluate attractions and tourism products that could be packaged and promoted to Nigerian travellers. The programme also includes business meetings with tourism organisations and private operators to identify new areas of cooperation.

During the retreat, Chukwudimma Ezembamalu, Director of Payments and Acquiring (Key Accounts and Hospitality) at OPay, reiterated the company’s partnership with NANTA to provide digital payment solutions for Nigeria’s travel and hospitality industry.

He also introduced OHotel, an upcoming platform designed to improve the visibility of hospitality businesses and simplify digital payments for both local and international travellers.

The mission also supports the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by encouraging easier movement of travellers, expanding tourism services and promoting cross-border economic cooperation. Greater collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana is expected to increase visitor spending, attract private investment and reinforce tourism’s contribution to economic growth across the region.

Safari World has also established a Nigerian office as part of its regional expansion strategy, reflecting its growing interest in the Nigerian outbound tourism market and its commitment to building stronger tourism links between both countries.

The Nigeria-Ghana tourism initiative showcases how tourism operators, technology firms and private investors are working together to improve regional travel, attract investment and expand business opportunities across West Africa, positioning tourism as an important driver of economic integration on the continent.
