VIYA Health takes WHO-prequalified contraceptive to Oyo’s PHCs

VIYA Health, exclusive distributor of Incepta Pharmaceuticals’ WHO-prequalified family planning solution, DMPA-SC, in Nigeria, has begun engagements with the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board to expand access to affordable and quality family planning services across the state.

The partnership discussions, held recently at the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, focused on increasing access to Medogen SubQ, a WHO-prequalified contraceptive manufactured by Incepta Pharmaceuticals.

The company said the product’s World Health Organization prequalification provides assurance that it meets stringent international quality standards, offering healthcare providers and women a safe, effective and affordable family planning option.

Speaking during the engagement, Muideen Babatunde Olatunji, executive secretary of the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board, said the state remained open to family planning initiatives and innovative healthcare programmes.

Olatunji said the state government was committed to investing in health commodities and improving the availability of family planning products while strengthening collaboration with private-sector stakeholders in other areas of public health.

He said expanding the range of safe and affordable contraceptive options available through primary healthcare centres would complement efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes and enable individuals and families to make informed reproductive health decisions.

“The Oyo State Government remains committed to improving access to quality primary healthcare services for our people,” Olatunji said.

He commended VIYA Health for engaging with the state’s primary healthcare authorities, adding that greater access to affordable family planning commodities would strengthen healthcare delivery and contribute to improved outcomes for women, children and families.

Billy Shoaga, business lead, VIYA Health Nigeria, said the engagement formed part of the company’s broader strategy of working with state governments and other stakeholders to improve access to reproductive healthcare.

Shoaga said increasing the availability of affordable, high-quality family planning commodities was critical to addressing unmet family planning needs, improving maternal and child health outcomes and empowering women to make informed reproductive health decisions.

“At VIYA Health, we are committed to ensuring that quality healthcare products reach the people who need them most,” he said.

According to him, the collaboration with the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board would help expand access to a WHO-prequalified family planning solution that combines quality, safety and affordability.

He added that stronger public-private partnerships would be essential to improving public health outcomes and ensuring that more women could access reliable family planning options.

The engagement comes as governments and healthcare stakeholders continue to strengthen primary healthcare systems and improve access to essential health commodities, with family planning remaining an important component of maternal and child health interventions.

By seeking to expand the availability of Medogen SubQ through Oyo State’s primary healthcare network, the collaboration could widen contraceptive choice for women while supporting the state’s broader primary healthcare objectives.
