PHCCIMA to support tourism expansion in Rivers

…As Beach Harcourt Club seeks partnership

The Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHCCIMA) has pledged to support the

tourism expansion in Rivers State, saying the sector holds a great potential to the oil-rich state’s

subnational GDP.

According to Chinyere Nwoga, president of PHCCIMA, while receiving a delegation of Beach

Harcourt Club, the Port Harcourt-based tourism development is a sector with strong growth

trajectory, especially with the impending expansion of the state’s blue economy potential.

Nwoga said PHCCIMA has a longstanding commitment to initiatives to unlock Rivers State’s

economic potential. “Our active involvement in development-focused programs has been key to

maintaining our position as a leader among bilateral and city chambers in Nigeria,” she said.

As the chamber’s first female president since its founding in 1957, and holding roles as deputy

president ex-officio, and national deputy coordinator of the women wing of Nigerian Association

of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Nwoga reaffirmed

PHCCIMA’s dedication to fostering private sector growth and sustainability.

Walter Aberepikima, leader of the Beach Port Harcourt Club, outlined the club’s objectives,

which includes, forging a partnership with PHCCIMA to elevate tourism as a driver of state

progress. He also shared an exciting lineup of seasonal events designed to showcase Rivers

State’s untapped attractions, particularly on Bonny Island, a hub of oil and gas wealth now more

accessible via a new road link.

The club’s agenda includes: Bonny Beach Program: A celebration marking the island’s enhanced connectivity. Finima Excursion: An immersive exploration of local sites. Mangrove Breakfast Program: A culinary and nature-focused gathering amid the state’s mangrove ecosystems. Nasty November Program: A vibrant festival set in Port Harcourt city. Jungle Swamp Party: An adventurous event highlighting the region’s wild landscapes. All-White Boat Cruise: A scenic voyage from Port Harcourt to Okrika. Street Party: A lively urban celebration to cap the series.

“As a PHCCIMA member, our events aim to spotlight the world-class tourism opportunities in

Bonny Island and across Rivers State,” Aberepikima emphasised.

Ayo Sokari, chairman of PHCCIMA’s Tourism and Hospitality Trade Group, lauded the Beach

Harcourt Club’s “impressive and commendable” efforts. She urged the club to stay true to its

mission.

This partnership signals a promising step toward positioning Rivers State as a premier tourism

destination, blending business acumen with cultural promotion.
