The Supreme Court has set Thursday October 26, as the date for judgment in the appeals filed by the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, respectively, challenging the result of the February 25, 2023 election in which President Bola Tinubu was declared the winner.
Festus Akande, the director of information of the Supreme Court, confirmed the date of judgment in a statement released on Wednesday.
Akande said that all parties involved in the appeals have been notified of the date and that they should be prepared to appear before the court on the day set for judgment.
The appeals seek to overturn the ruling of the Election Tribunal which upheld the election result and dismissed the petitions by the appellants. The appellants argue that the election was marred by irregularities and fraud and that the Tribunal erred in dismissing their petitions.
On Monday, both the PDP and the LP presented their arguments before the Supreme Court, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and its presidential candidate, Chichi Ojei, withdrew their appeal. The APM and Ojei had filed their appeal alongside the PDP and Obi, challenging the ruling of the Election Tribunal
