Mathesis Analytics secures Sewa Capital investment to expand credit infrastructure across Africa

Mathesis Analytics secures Sewa Capital investment to expand credit infrastructure across Africa

Mathesis Analytics, a Nigerian financial technology company providing AI-powered credit decisioning infrastructure, has secured a strategic investment from Sewa Capital Limited to accelerate the deployment of its credit technology to financial institutions across Nigeria and, ultimately, other African markets.

The investment will support the scaling of Mathesis’ proprietary credit decisioning engine, product development, institutional integrations, expansion of its lender network and strengthening of its data and technology infrastructure.

The transaction comes as Nigerian lenders grapple with a persistent information gap in the credit market, where fragmented access to verifiable consumer data makes it difficult to assess and price risk accurately at scale.

Mathesis is seeking to address that constraint by aggregating disparate transactional and behavioural data and converting it into a real-time measure of creditworthiness.

The technology is designed to enable lenders to expand their underwriting capacity, improve risk-based lending decisions and reach new customer segments without weakening established risk thresholds.

Mathesis targets credit information gap

For financial institutions, the availability and quality of borrower information remain central to credit decisions, particularly when lending to consumers with limited formal credit histories.

Mathesis provides an AI-powered decisioning layer that allows lenders to incorporate behavioural and transactional data into their underwriting processes.

The platform can be deployed either as an integrated intelligence layer within existing lending systems or as a turnkey credit infrastructure stack.

The company said the new investment will allow it to deepen institutional adoption and equip a wider network of lenders with technology for faster and more informed credit decisions.

Angela Jide-Jones, managing director, Sewa Capital, said the investment reflects the firm’s interest in businesses building infrastructure capable of improving capital allocation across Africa.

“At Sewa Capital, we are interested in businesses building the infrastructure that enables African economies to allocate capital more efficiently and inclusively,” Jide-Jones said.

She described the information gap limiting lenders’ ability to assess risk confidently as a fundamental constraint in African credit markets.

According to her, Mathesis’ technology has the potential to expand responsible access to credit in Nigeria and subsequently across other African markets.

Mathesis enters the new investment phase with a significant operating footprint in Nigeria.

The fintech said it has supported more than eight million loans for over two million unique borrowers in the country.

The scale of loans supported provides Mathesis with an established operating and data base from which to expand its institutional relationships and develop its technology for additional markets.

The company plans to leverage Sewa Capital’s backing to accelerate the expansion of its institutional footprint and deepen its role as a provider of credit infrastructure to financial institutions.

Winston Osuchukwu, founder and chief executive officer of Mathesis Analytics, said access to reliable information is central to expanding financial inclusion.

“Credit inclusion begins with information visibility,” Osuchukwu said.

He said the partnership would accelerate the rollout of Mathesis’ infrastructure, giving a broader network of lenders the capacity to assess risk more accurately and extend credit to populations that have traditionally been underserved.

The investment also supports Mathesis’ ambition to build what it describes as Africa’s next-generation credit infrastructure.

Having established its platform in Nigeria, the company is looking to expand its institutional footprint into additional African markets where lenders face similar challenges around fragmented financial information and limited formal credit histories.

For Sewa Capital, the transaction provides exposure to a fintech company addressing a structural challenge in the allocation of capital rather than simply providing another source of consumer finance.
